Celebrate Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) during CSA Week from February 21 - 28, 2021 with your local farm.

So, I joined a local CSA! For those of you who are wondering what my fuss is all about let me explain. I am greedy. I love food. I really, really love fresh food. I am fortunate that I live in an area that has a plethora of nearby farms and farmer's markets to support this (healthy) addiction. A CSA is a farm membership system that allows consumers to sign up to receive a season’s worth of a farm’s products (veggies, eggs, meat, etc.) every week. Along with getting to enjoy fresh, delicious, and local food, being a CSA member is an excellent way to support and get to know your local farmers.

I decided that this week I would show off some of the local farms in my area and maybe a couple that are not so close. Why? Because "Food Desserts" are real and so are "Food Swamps" (Maybe I will get into that subject one day this week?) and many families do not realize that there is a better/healthier way to obtain this basic necessity.

Dodo Farms is located in Brookeville, Montgomery County in Maryland. They grow spinach, kale, potatoes, broccoli, carrots, beets, tomato, raspberry, blackberry, collard greens,- just to name a few. They can be found selling produce at Farmer's Markets in Silver Spring Maryland and Dupont Circle in D.C.. There may be a couple of other places but you will have to look on their website to see the full list of CSA pickup locations.

What you definitely will find at this farm is that that they pride themselves on growing produce and selling products that are free of genetic modifications, chemicals fertilizers and all that other stuff that we don't like in our food.
